GLP1 updates

Sunny ClarkSunny Clark

If you are on semaglutide or tirzepatide, you already know the scale moves. What the scale does not tell you is what kind of weight is coming off — and that distinction decides whether you look and feel the way you hoped when you started.

The part nobody warned you about

Every study on GLP-1 medications finds the same thing: a meaningful share of the weight lost is lean mass. Not fat. Muscle. Depending on the trial and the population, the figure lands somewhere between a quarter and 40 percent of total loss.

That matters for three reasons:

The medication is doing its job. The problem is that appetite suppression does not distinguish between fat and muscle — it just creates a deficit, and your body pulls from whatever is available.

Resistance training is the only known fix

There is no supplement for this and no dosing schedule that solves it. The intervention that reliably preserves lean mass during a caloric deficit is progressive resistance training, and it has to be hard enough to signal to your body that the muscle is still needed.

You are not training to burn calories. The medication is handling that. You are training to tell your body which tissue to keep.

That reframe changes what a good workout looks like. You do not need ninety minutes on a treadmill. You need enough mechanical tension across the major muscle groups, often enough, to keep the signal alive.

Why fifteen minutes is enough

Most people on a GLP-1 are also dealing with lower energy, especially in the first few months. A traditional gym routine asks for four to five hours a week, and that is exactly the wrong ask for someone eating six hundred fewer calories a day.

The JouleFit circuit runs five machines in roughly fifteen minutes. Each one matches the force you produce rather than asking you to lift a fixed weight, which means:

Two sessions a week. Under sixteen minutes each. That is the entire prescription.

What our members are seeing

Members who pair the circuit with their medication tell us the same three things: their strength numbers climb while the scale drops, their clothes fit differently than they did on previous diets, and they are not exhausted.

One member on Wegovy dropped thirty pounds over five months. Her body composition scan showed she kept essentially all of her lean mass. Her deadlift went up.

How to start

If you are on a GLP-1 now, or your doctor has brought it up, the time to add resistance training is at the beginning — not after you notice something is off. Muscle is far easier to keep than to rebuild.

Come in for a complimentary session. We will fit the machines to you, run the full circuit, and give you a baseline number. Fifteen minutes, no commitment, no sweat.

This is not medical advice. Talk to the physician managing your prescription before changing your routine.
